Tonia Holmes-Sutton, Ed.D., NBCT, is a National Board Certified Teacher (Early Childhood Generalist) in Nevada. A twenty-year veteran teacher leading in education advocacy, her primary service and support has been to children and families of vulnerable, underserved communities within the Las Vegas Valley. Tonia engages as an education leader collaborating with teaching and leading colleagues across the country; constructing affinity spaces for and with educators to examine critical issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion, as accomplished teachers committed to equitable education for all students. She is a member of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) Board of Directors and State Director for Teach Plus Nevada. Dr. Holmes-Sutton is also the 2020 Alumna of the Year at the UNLV College of Education. Previously, Holmes-Sutton led as a Governor-appointed member on the Nevada State Board of Education. She presently serves as a Board Director for WestEd, a Board Trustee for the National Teachers Hall of Fame, a member of the Nevada State Public Charter School Authority Board, and as a founding member of the National Board Network of Accomplished Minoritized Educators (National Board NAME) and the Women of Color in Education Twitter Chat (#WOCEdChat).
